maintenance back

Maintenance recommendation for flexographic printers DV70, DV120, DV121, DV220, DV221, DV320, DV321

Service interval 1 (every 2 weeks)
- check the plastic buffers below and above the guide rails (8 pieces) for damages
- check rubber buffers on the printing table (4 pieces) for damages
- check cables for correct tension (see here for tightening) and damage (see also exchange of the cables)
- check ink level in the ink container periodically

Service interval 2 (once a month)
- check lock nuts of the 4 small cylinders of the guide rails for tightness
- operational test of the 3 safety switches at the doors
- operational test of the operating keys and display elements (lamps)
- check for tolerance at the printing table (rotating possible yes/no)
- clean paper guide rollers of possible ink staining
- check ink tubes for sediments or incrustation of ink and replace if necessary

Service interval 3 (every 3 months)
- check parallelism of the ink roller to the inking unit
- remove ink unit and:
  - dismantle the upper section with the rollers, (see also maintenance of the ink unit)
  - clean ink tub with solvent
  - checking of the diameter of the rubber roller (at least 39 mm over the entire length)
  - check the proper operation of the ball bearings
  - reassemble the ink unit and check the smooth operation
- examine the plastic gears for damages or abrasion
- check pneumatic links and tubes for tightness (acoustically)
- clean the drip pan from possible contamination
- functional inspection of the ink level sensor
- clean ink roller with soft cloth and solvent
- clean counter pressure plate

Generally
- keep the printer clean from any pollution

Maintenance of the ink unit

The diameter of the rubber roller decreases during operation due to wear off. At a measure of 39mm Ø the rubber roller should be renewed.

All other mechanical parts are maintenance-free and do not require special care. However, dirt particles may settle in the inking unit and supply container and should be removed approximately every three months. If the printer is located in a dusty environment the system should be cleaned more frequently.

After rinsing the hoses and the ink unit with thinner, remove the ink unit. The ink rollers can be removed from the ink unit by opening the 4 Allen screws (4 mm). See sketch at the left.

Attention: Do not open the outer screws!

Now the ink tub can be cleaned with thinner by using a lint free cloth. IMPORTANT: Pay attention that no thinner or ink gets in touch with the ball bearings.

Tightening of the cables
From time to time, the steel cables who move the ink roller have to be re-tightened. To do so, you can adjust the eccentric bolts of all six guide rollers. (Loosen hex screw on the otside of the printer first)

Exchange of the cables
We recommend following procedure:
1) Disconnect the printer from air- and energy supply. Open rear plexiglas door.
2) Release the screws of the two clamps at the ink roller and take out the roller.
3) Loosen all 6 guide rollers by turning the inner eccentric bolts after opening the hex screws.
4) Open lower front door and remove the supporting roller of the gear rack so that the gear shaft can be turned.
5) Remove cables (use drillings in the side plate).
6) Install the new cables by paying attention to the right position of the cables on the cable pulley.
7) Reinsert supporting roller.
8) Reinsert and straighten the ink roller. When gear rack is extended, the black plastic roller in the U-profile in the back has to be flush. Pay attention to parallel position with ink roller.
9) Tighten cables by turning the eccentric bolts of the guide rollers.
